Sceen flickers, and PC reboots with DPC_Watchdog_Violation

Hi

I have upgraded my HPE-450SC to Win10, but every 2-5 minutes it turns black for a while, and I receive a message in the buttom of screen that chrome.exe have tried to get access to the hardware.

Very often the PC gets BSOD with DPC_Watchdog_Violation.

I'm using the GeForce Game ready Driver version 391.35.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue.

Welcome to HP support community.

Remove All External Devices on Your Computer.

Change SATA AHCI Controller

Step 1. Launch Device Manager in Windows 10.

1. Press Windows key and X key simultaneously.
2. Select Device Manager from the menu.

Step 2. Verify if you choose the correct controller.

1. Find and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

2. Choose the SATA AHCI controller and right-click it.

3. Select Properties from the pop-up window.

4. Go to the Driver tab and then click Drive Details.

5. Make sure the iaStorA.sys is listed as a driver. Then click OK.

Step 3. Update the driver for this device.

1. Choose Update Driver.

2. Choose Browse my computer for driver software.

3. Choose Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

4. Choose Standard SATA AHCI Controller and click Next.

5. Restart your computer to take effect.

Hi Sandy.

Is this because you think the harddisk controller is the cause of this issue, and not the videodriver?

Update the Bios and Graphics card driver using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

   

2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

   

3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

The support assistant tells that there are no updates available.

Shall I try to remove the graphics driver?

I have tried to remove the driver for the videocard, and the picture is stable, but after a while the driver is automatically updated to the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 460. Is there a way to avoid this update, and use the Microsoft standard driver?

@Peter_DK I went through the details and if the continues to present itself after the video card driver is reinstalled as well, the DPC_Watchdog error could be an issue with the OS, that said, try the below steps:

Step 1- Go to the Start button and choose Control Panel. In the control panel menu choose Power Options.

Step 2- From the left side of the panel, choose what the power button does.

Step 3- Then choose change settings that are currently unavailable from the window that opens.

Step 4- Scroll down a little and you will find Turn on fast startup option. Uncheck this option to turn it off.

Step 5- Then click on Save Changes and Exit to save the changes.
