While my display within Windows is fine, entering BIOS via either hitting the Esc key upon boot-
or from Windows Recover page-
is unreadable. I'm using the built -in Intel graphics device. I don't think it can be a driver issue, and that should only be a factor when in Windows. Would appreciate suggestions on how to get a clear screen.

Hi @Tony_Czar,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the BIOS screen is scrambled or unreadable on your HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-4000i, it’s likely not a Windows driver issue, as the BIOS operates independently of the operating system. Instead, this could be related to:
Monitor Resolution or Display Mode:
- Sometimes BIOS screens are displayed at a resolution or refresh rate that the monitor doesn't handle well. Try using a different monitor or connecting your PC to a different input port (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) on the same monitor to see if the issue persists.
- Check if the monitor has settings for different display modes or resolutions. Switching to a different mode, such as "PC" or "Auto" mode, might help the BIOS display correctly.
Outdated or Corrupted BIOS:
- A scrambled BIOS could be due to outdated or corrupted firmware. Try updating the BIOS. You can update it by downloading the latest version from HP’s official website. This might correct any display issues.
- Go to the HP support page for your model.
- Download the latest BIOS update for your PC.
- Use the instructions provided to flash the new BIOS (HP typically provides a BIOS update tool to make this easier).
Clear CMOS:
- Resetting the BIOS by clearing the CMOS may fix display issues. This can be done by removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for a few minutes and then reinserting it. This will reset BIOS settings to default.
- Make sure to unplug your PC before doing this and consult your desktop's manual for instructions on accessing the CMOS battery.
Switch to Discrete Graphics (if available):
- If your desktop has a dedicated graphics card but you're currently using the onboard Intel graphics, try switching to the discrete card by connecting the monitor to it. The BIOS screen might display correctly using a different GPU.
Check Cable Connections:
- Ensure your display cables (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) are securely connected, and try swapping them out to rule out a faulty cable.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
