I think my screen may be going out but I'm unsure. At first the screen would freeze up and start fading into white. When I readjusted the screen or put pressure onto it, it would go back to normal. Now, it has gotten to the point where I'm unable to see anything. It's all white with purple and green.

Hi @Katelynn1999,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The display issues you're describing with your HP laptop could be due to several possible causes. Here's a step-by-step guide to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.

Check for External Display Issues

  • External Monitor Test: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable. If the external display works fine, it suggests the issue is with the laptop's screen or its connections, not the graphics card.

Inspect the Display Cable Connection

  • Loose or Damaged Cable: Over time, the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard can become loose or damaged. Given that adjusting the screen or applying pressure previously helped, this is a strong possibility.
  • Opening the Laptop: If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you can check the cable connections. Ensure the display cable is securely connected to both the motherboard and the screen. Look for any visible damage to the cable.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Procedure: Shut down the laptop, disconnect all external devices, unplug the power adapter, and remove the battery if possible. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on the laptop.

Boot in Safe Mode

  • Procedure: Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the display issues persist. If the screen works fine in Safe Mode, it could indicate a driver issue.
    • Windows Safe Mode: Restart the laptop and press F8 or Shift + F8 before Windows starts loading. Select Safe Mode from the Advanced Boot Options menu.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Driver Update: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Update your drivers from the HP support website or through Windows Device Manager.
    • Device Manager: Open Device Manager, expand the Display adapters section, right-click on your graphics card, and select Update driver.

Check for Physical Damage

  • Screen Damage: Inspect the screen for any physical damage, such as cracks or discoloration that could indicate a need for replacement.

Given the progression of your issue from intermittent to constant display problems, it’s likely a hardware fault, possibly with the screen or its connections

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
