That depends on some terms meaning what is actually the equipment. A "desktop" PC means more than one thing nowadays. The All in Ones (AIO) are referred to as a "desktop" (one definition) and a desktop with a monitor is also referred to as a desktop. A desktop with a separate monitor - the monitor can be used as second screen for the laptop as long as it is not being used by the desktop PC.
If the "desktop" is a AIO - then some can enable the screen to be used by a second device while others cannot. That depends on the design of the AIO. Please post the model number of the AIO.
