VH204a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just unpacked a VH204a computer monitor. About 80% of the way across the screen, there is a vertical line.  Not sure if this is a setting issue or a problem with the monitor.

IF you mean a solid color line that is there all the time, that is definitely a hardware fault -- but it could be the monitor, the display chip, or both.

 

The only way to check for the monitor is to connect another monitor and see if that too displays the vertical line.  IF it does, then the video chip is bad; If not, your monitor is bad.

 

Either way, You should not be having problems like this with a new PC!


You paid for free HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.


While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.

If they are unable to fix your PC, then you need to explore what options you have to get it replaced under the warranty or see about returning it for a refund.
