HP Pavilion 27 FHD Display w/B&O speakers 3TN79AA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an annoying problem with my HP Pavilion 27 FHD Display w/B&O speakers.

I'm using it with a Dell XPS 15 laptop connected via the bundled USB-C cable.

Usually the display speaker volume is in sync with windows, so I can either use the volume buttons on the display, the multimedia keys of the laptop or an external keyboard to adjust the master volume.

Randomly, however, the volume goes out of sync (windows displayed volume level is different than the one showed by the display OSD; at times I can't even adjust the volume with my keyboards.

I have the feeling that this occurs after the computer wakes up from sleep, but my last try proved me wrong: after incurring in the "volume blocked" problem, I rebooted windows and the volume was in sync. I tried a couple of times to put the laptop to sleep and wake it up, and it still works ok.

This happens using both of the audio devices "Echo Cancelling Speakerphone (Pavilion 27)" and "HP 27 FHD (Intel(R) Display Audio)".

The other thing that troubles me is that sometimes the external Keyboard, connected to the Display USB HUB, is not recognized by windows, and it simply doesn't work; I have to reboot the pc to make it work again.

Just to prevent the usual advices, my windows installation and drivers are already up to date (Windows 10 home 1909 64-bit).

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Click here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-27-inch-displays/7274719/model/23303580 for Software and Driver Downloads.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake,

thanks for taking the time to assist me.

Unfortunately, as I've written at the end of my message, I'm already at the last windows update.

HP support assistant doesn't find any update, and the most recent driver for the display (1.00 Rev A) is of january 2019, and I already installed them a while ago.

In this two days since my post I didn't experienced problems with the volume controls. I have however experienced the USB keyboard not detected problem (and solved by rebooting as usual, since I had to work and couldn't spend time troubleshooting it).

Thanks again for your help

@sanzoghenzo

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
