What is the use of the amd graphics card in pavilion desktop? As far as I am aware it is not used at all. Why install it in the first place HP?

Definitely you are using it now because the Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. Without it you can't connect to a monitor right now. Its specs

Thanks for that.... but that leads to my next question, the AMD r5330 card is rated much lower than the Intel 530 integrated graphics, at least according to a link I found on Steam. Is that true? If so, why not disconnect the amd card? this issue arises because of the big update HP wants to install for the amd card... any idea what the update will achieve? Dated this year I think. Update version: 15.201.2301

Please check the following comparison

Hope this helps.

The advanced display settings in Windows 10 shows that my monitor is connected to the Intel 530 graphics chip/card. That does not jive with your assertion that the Intel graphics is not available when another graphics card is installed. Am I not seeing something obvious? Thanks for your replies!
