Z27 monitor has power-cycling issue in USB-C charging

HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I connect my Z27 to a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th generation laptop via the laptop's USB-C charging port (which also outputs video) to the monitor's USB-C input and Power Delivery port. I'm also using the cable provided in the Z27 box. The laptop is running Windows 10 with all OS and Lenovo updates applied. No other cables (besides AC power) are connected to the Z27.

Once every 3 to 25 minutes, both screens (laptop and Z27) go black for a couple seconds, and then the desktop reappears on both screens. Some windows move as if the OS went into single-monitor mode briefly. I also hear the sound that Windows makes when the laptop switches to battery power. I checked the Windows Event Viewer (Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System), and every time this blanking happens, there are a pair of Kernel events:  "Event 105, Kernel-Power", "Power source change."

I do not think I've seen this behavior when I connect the laptop to the monitor via HDMI.

How can I get this power-cycling to stop when using the USB-C connection?
