@mrplumber2022 -- welcome to this peer-to-peer discussion forum. It is not a path to HP Support.

What is the model-number of your computer?   It would be helpful to know what video-output ports exist on it, and whether the USB-C port can be used for video-output.

Is this your monitor: c06936022.pdf (hp.com)

That web-page lists:  1 HDMI 1.4 (with HDCP support); 1 VGA

So, be sure that you have configured the monitor to "listen" to the HDMI-input port, not the VGA input-port, since you have a cable with a HDMI connector at one end, and a USB-C connector at the other end.

Thankyou for replying to my thread, i have now brought a usb c to display port cable and also brought a hp 27f4k which has a display port, connected it all together to find the exact same message, i honestly do not know what else to do, as if in 2022 two Hp products do not connect easily.

@mrplumber2022 -- on your HP computer, hold-down the "windows" key (bottom-left of your keyboard) and tap the "P" key, to see if a pop-up menu shows "duplicate" or "extend".

Or, within the Windows "Device Manager" window, expand the "Display Adapters" branch of the device-tree.

Do you see just one entry, or two entries?

Do you have access to any other computer (HP or non-HP) with a USB-C port, that you can try to connect to your HP monitor?

Are you using the "input" (or "source") button on the HP monitor to select the appropriate video-input port to become the "active" port. Not VGA. Not DVI. HDMI? DisplayPort?

Is this your computer: HP ENVY - 13-ah0501sa Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

On that page, I see:

External ports
1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.2,

which seems to be what you want.
