I just purchased a HP Pavillion All In One Computer yesterday.  I would like to add my other 2 monitors to it but it won't work.  I would like to have 3 monitors to work from.  I had the other two monitors hooked up to a cheap laptop so it's hard to believe such an expense HP Pavillion won't accept two additional monitors.  Is there a trick to it?  Can someone help?

Hi @Rorotx

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Adding multiple monitors to a laptop setup is possible, but it depends on your laptop's hardware capabilities and the available ports. The HP Pavilion laptop should generally be capable of supporting multiple monitors, but you need to make sure it has the necessary ports and graphics processing power.

Here's what you can do to set up three monitors with your HP Pavilion laptop:

  • Check available ports: Look at your laptop's sides for video output ports. Common ones include HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C with Thunderbolt support, and VGA (less common). Your laptop needs to have enough of these ports to connect the additional monitors.
  • Graphics capabilities: Your laptop's graphics card also plays a role in how many monitors it can support. Most modern laptops have integrated graphics that can handle at least two monitors. Some higher-end models or gaming laptops might support more monitors.
  • Docking station: If your laptop doesn't have enough ports, you can consider using a docking station. A docking station can provide additional video outputs and other ports like USB and Ethernet. Make sure to choose a docking station that's compatible with your laptop model.
  • Multiple displays settings: Once you have the monitors connected, you'll need to configure your laptop's display settings. On Windows, you can right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings" to configure the arrangement and orientation of the monitors.
  • Extend displays: By default, Windows will likely duplicate your laptop's display on the additional monitors. However, you can change this to "Extend" mode, which gives you more screen real estate across all monitors, effectively making them act as one large desktop.
  • Resolution and performance: Keep in mind that adding multiple monitors can increase the strain on your laptop's graphics card. If you notice a drop in performance, you might need to adjust the resolution or consider using the built-in display for less demanding tasks.
  • Cable quality: Use high-quality cables to connect the monitors. In some cases, using cheap or damaged cables can lead to connectivity issues or poor display quality.
  • Driver updates: Make sure your laptop's graphics drivers are up to date. Manufacturers often release driver updates that can improve compatibility and performance with external displays.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
