Trouble shooting this item: Owner was told maybe low battery on the mouse. Tried different mouse. Still nothing. Tried unplugging the whole system. Still nothing. Tried different cable for the vga. Still nothing. Tried a different monitor, still no display.
So I feel it's an issue with the vga plug on the back of the tower. From what I could find, they saw to open the tower up

How do you connect them ? Is this the first time connection ? The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06020221
It has following ports at its back
- Audio: Line in
- Audio: Line out
- Audio: Microphone
- DisplayPort
- HDMI out
- USB 2.0: 2
- USB 3.1: 4
- LAN (Ethernet)
Your machine does not have VGA port. What is your monitor ? You can use port 4 or 5 to connect to a monitor.
Regards.
