My desktop suddenly would not open up and the start light was flashing but only got a blank screen.

I googled it and did what was recommended by Hp. Now all I get is a screen to enter a BitLocker recovery key - I’ve never had one.

also suddenly my keyboard will only work with numbers. I’ve tried a plug in one too and the same happens

Help!!

@Blenkiron, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're experiencing multiple issues with your HP desktop, including a request for a BitLocker recovery key and keyboard malfunctions. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to address these problems:

BitLocker Recovery Key Issue

It’s possible that BitLocker was enabled on your device. This encryption feature might ask for a recovery key if certain system changes are detected or if it thinks the system's security is compromised. Here's how you can try to resolve it:

Find the BitLocker Recovery Key:

  • Look for the key in your Microsoft account: Go to BitLocker Recovery Keys and log in with the Microsoft account used to set up the device. Your recovery key should be listed there if the BitLocker was set up using your account.
  • Check if you have a printout or a USB drive where the BitLocker key was saved during setup.
  • Contact IT support if this is a work computer, as they may have the key stored.

You can attempt the following to troubleshoot the keyboard issue once you have recovered.

Keyboard Settings:

  • For Windows: Go to Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use > Check settings related to “Mouse Keys” and ensure it's turned off.

Check Device Drivers:

  • Update the keyboard drivers through Device Manager:
    • Go to "Device Manager."
    • Find "Keyboards," right-click on it, and select "Update driver."
    • Follow the instructions to update the driver.

Hardware Check:

  • Try a different USB port for the external keyboard.
  • Confirm if the issue persists with a different keyboard, as you mentioned the same behavior with a plugged-in keyboard.

I hope this helps.
