Can't connect internet wirelessly or Ethernet Pavillion Vista

Pavillion 1720n
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
Need help connecting to Xfi modem wirelessly and Ethernet. XFINITY thinks I need to change settings on Pavillion. Pavillion used o connect to internet via linksys modem with Ethernet. Appreciate any help. Should i install windows 7? Just lost.

The specs does not mention about the LAN port but I believe it is a 10/100 Ethernet port. Your new modem router may only has 10/100/1000 Ethernet port(s) therefore you need to configure port at the modem router end to allow it have to "talk" slower otherwise  your machine can't "hear" it.

 

Please talk with your provider and ask them how to configure this. But before that please try
