HP Pavillion p6 series unable to connect to AT&T U-verse router by wireless or with ethernet cable

HP Recommended

Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

This is an extra yet important computer. I had problems with the  internet connection with all our computers at my former address. However, the HP never connected wirelessly.  A tech  connected the HP by using  a non-wireless connection to the internet .

I moved this month and I am using AT&T  U-verse provided router. All our other computers connect with no problems.  I tried a ethernet cable  tonight and still unable to get  the HP  to connect to  the internet. I have music  and lectures on the HP .I cannot download anything even if I  learned that I needed a driver. What can I do. I would be grateful for wisdom from anyone. Thank you for reading this email.

Hi @Patgo,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the connectivity on your HP Desktop PC. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you able to connect to any other wireless/wired network on this PC?

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers?

Did this happen after a recent update or upgrade?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the PC:

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check if you are able to connect to another wireless network, this could isolate if the issue is with the new router or if it's the computer itself.

For now, I would suggest you try the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - Wi-Fi Not Working on HP Computer

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would suggest before you come to any conclusion whether it's a hardware or software issue. I would recommend you perform a System recovery and set the computer back to the original factory conditions.

HP PCs - How to Reset Your Computer to Factory Settings (Windows 10, 8, 7)

Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
