I have an older Pavilion P6000 desktop. Seems that the built in ethernet has died. I've switched out cables etc but no joy. THere is one expansion slot so I w as thinking of putting an ethernet card in . Just wanted to verify that this will not cause any issues with the machine.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I recommend you use a USB Ethernet card instead of installing an internal Ethernet card as it is easier to use and install.
You can go ahead and install an internal Ethernet card and it will not harm the computer.
Hope that helps and you have a great day!
