HP 251-a244 Desktop
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

Hope someone can help identify the issue and offer a solution. I have an HP desktop 251-a244. It came with Windows 10 and a couple of weeks ago after cleaning up files to speed up the computer it stopped functioning and would only go into the blue choose your keyboard screen. All diagnostics we ran (including 3 hours with Microsoft on the phone) and best efforts to get it working again were futile. it is stuck in this endless loop.

So, we bought a new hard drive, installed it and uploaded Windows 7 (that is what we had at home). OK, so now the computer is up again, but for the life of us we cannot get it to connect to the internet. all of the relevant devices (ethernet, wireless adapter, etc.) are coming up with a yellow icon and exclamation point. We downloaded a dozen drivers from a different computer (connected to the net) and with a USB tried to use them to 'revive' the wireless adapter. Nothing.

So, couple of questions please:

1. Does anyone know exactly which driver would help fix this? if not a driver, is there a different solution?

2. Is it maybe an issue that we have Windows 7 and the computer had 10 and now the 7 cannot 'talk' to the wireless adapter?

3. once this is fixed (fingers crossed), is there a way to download 10 again since the machine had 10 initially?

4. is there a human we can talk to at HP? can only find virtual chat

Thanks much!

Hi:

Here are the links to the W7 drivers you need for your PC:

Chipset: Install and restart the PC.

That will install the motherboard drivers and USB3 controller drivers.

Select the W7 x64 driver from the list.

Graphics:  Select the W7 x 64 driver, install and restart the PC.

A6-6310 with Radeon™ R4 Graphics Drivers & Support | AMD

Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the Windows 64 bit driver from the link below and restart the PC.

PC Audio Codecs > High Definition Audio Codecs Software - REALTEK

Ethernet:   Download, unzip and run the setup application from the W7 driver at the link below.

Realtek PCIe FE / GBE / 2.5G / Gaming Ethernet Family Controller Software - REALTEK

SD card reader:  Download, unzip and run the setup application from the first driver listed at the link below.

Card Reader Solutions > Card Reader Controllers Software - REALTEK

Wifi:

This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8188EE, RTL8723DE, RTL8821CE, and RTL8822BE wireless LAN Controller in the supported models running a supported operating system.

You can reinstall W10 by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Since your PC is most likely out of warranty, you will be charged for phone support, so I wouldn't bother with that.

Also, the wireless icon is not even coming up (machine is not identifying any networks) and even when connected directly to LAN nothing happens.

I did not understand @Paul_Tikkanen
when i replied there was no reply yet, so sorry
It's odd that some models are still not supported
The best therefore is your last solution to go directly to windows 10 with the microsoft tool
