I recently was able to get 30Mbps service from my ISP with 1Gbps available soon.

I have a Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet controller card but can't get over 100Mbps speed.

I verified that I have the latest driver, ver 2.1.0.27. In checking the Advanced settings I discoverd that under Speed & Duplex, I was not able to choose above 100Mbps.

Am I missing something? Please advise.

Regards,

LonePalm

Welcome to HP Community

You might have to change your Ethernet Cable. You are probably using the Cat 5 Cable, you need to try with a Cat 5e Cable.

Cat 5 cable allows speeds of 10Mbps and 100Mbps while Cat 5e cables allow speeds of up to 1000Mbps

You can also check with your ISP to help you change the Ethernet Cable

Keep me posted 😊

Nope. I have brand new Cat 6 cables.

Tne problem is that I can't set the speed and duplex of the Atheros AR8161 NIC higher than 100Mbps.

I have done considerable research and tried numerous suggestions concerning the Advanced Settings.

FWIW - I have a MS in Computer Science and built my first PC in 1981. This isn't my first rodeo.

Is there anyone I can call or chat with?

BTW - There is a typo in the original posting. It should be 300Mbps vice 30Mbps.

Thanks to Krazy Toad but that is not the issue.
