Hi @TOMMYBOAY
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Hi! It sounds like you'd like to connect your HP 230 Wireless Combo (keyboard and mouse) to your HP Pavilion All-in-One using the integral Wi-Fi port (i.e., through your computer's internal Wi-Fi capabilities), rather than using the USB receiver that comes with the wireless keyboard and mouse.
Quick Clarification on Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Connections:
- Wireless keyboards and mice typically operate via a small USB receiver that communicates with the computer over a 2.4GHz wireless signal. The receiver is what allows the devices to connect to the computer, even if the keyboard and mouse are not physically plugged in.
- The integral Wi-Fi port or Wi-Fi adapter on your PC is used to connect to wireless networks (Wi-Fi internet), but it does not act as a receiver for the wireless keyboard and mouse.
Why You Can’t Connect the HP 230 Combo via Wi-Fi:
- Wi-Fi is designed for internet and network communication, while 2.4GHz wireless (RF) used by your keyboard and mouse typically requires a USB receiver to operate.
- The Wi-Fi adapter in your computer can't communicate with a 2.4GHz wireless signal from a keyboard or mouse directly, as it doesn't have the necessary receiver functionality to pair with such devices.
What You Can Do:
If USB Ports Are Limited or Full:
- If you're concerned about using a USB port because all your ports are occupied, consider using a USB hub to free up space for the receiver.
- If you specifically want to avoid using a USB port for the receiver, you may want to look into Bluetooth-enabled keyboards and mice, though this would require your computer to have Bluetooth support (which many newer desktops and all-in-ones have).
Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse Option (if your PC has Bluetooth):
- If your HP Pavilion All-in-One has Bluetooth built-in (many modern systems do), you can opt for a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse.
- Bluetooth devices don’t need a USB receiver; they can connect directly through your computer's Bluetooth.
- Going to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices and see if Bluetooth is listed.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
