I can not connect to the internet. It keeps telling me to change settings, such as make a connection metered. Like what I should not have to worry about internet I pay for disappearing from an almost $500 laptop. This has been going on for weeks. I need a solution asap.

Hi @Cwhite005, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Looks like your internet connection is playing hide-and-seek🫠🫥! Don't worry, we'll turn detective🕵️♂️ and coax those digital signals back into a smooth, streaming flow!
Check for Physical Switches or Keys
Some laptops have a physical switch or key combination to enable/disable Wi-Fi. Look for a switch on the sides or a key with a Wi-Fi symbol on your keyboard.
Run Network Troubleshooter
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Internet Connections and run the troubleshooter.
Reset Network Settings
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click on Network reset. This will remove and reinstall all network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings.
Update Network Drivers
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click on your network adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check WLAN AutoConfig Service
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find WLAN AutoConfig in the list.
- Right-click it, select Properties, and ensure the Startup type is set to Automatic. If it's not running, click Start.
Set Network as Metered (if needed)
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Network & Internet.
- Select Wi-Fi or Ethernet (depending on your connection type).
- Click on your network and toggle Set as metered connection on or off.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day. 🙂
