I can not connect to the internet. It keeps telling me to change settings, such as make a connection metered. Like what I should not have to worry about internet I pay for disappearing from an almost $500 laptop. This has been going on for weeks. I need a solution asap.

Hi @Cwhite005, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Looks like your internet connection is playing hide-and-seek🫠🫥! Don't worry, we'll turn detective🕵️‍♂️ and coax those digital signals back into a smooth, streaming flow!

Check for Physical Switches or Keys

Some laptops have a physical switch or key combination to enable/disable Wi-Fi. Look for a switch on the sides or a key with a Wi-Fi symbol on your keyboard.

Run Network Troubleshooter

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  3. Select Internet Connections and run the troubleshooter.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Network & Internet > Status.
  3. Scroll down and click on Network reset. This will remove and reinstall all network adapters and set other networking components back to their original settings.

Update Network Drivers

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Network adapters.
  3. Right-click on your network adapter and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Check WLAN AutoConfig Service

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find WLAN AutoConfig in the list.
  3. Right-click it, select Properties, and ensure the Startup type is set to Automatic. If it's not running, click Start.

Set Network as Metered (if needed)

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Network & Internet.
  3. Select Wi-Fi or Ethernet (depending on your connection type).
  4. Click on your network and toggle Set as metered connection on or off.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day. 🙂
