Network adapter won't work

HP Recommended
HP ENVY 23-d030
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

I recently reinstalled my OS. After it completed, my ethernet network adapterwouldn't work.

Under device manager, there are no issues showing, and I have downloaded all of the drivers listed on HP's site for this model - but the ethernet port is never recognized when I plug a cable in to it.

Thanks,

A

@chrysalid,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I reviewed your post and understand that the Ethernet port is not working after reinstalling Windows.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Do you see a light on the Ethernet port?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
  • Have you checked with a different Ethernet cable?

While I wait for your response, here's what you need to do:

The Windows 10 Network and Internet Troubleshooter tests the network for problems and automatically repairs the network connections if applicable. Use this tool to test and repair the connection.

  1. Type view network status in the search box on the taskbar, then select View network status and tasks from the search results.

  2. Click Troubleshoot problems.

  3. Click the item that matches the problem you are experiencing.

    • Internet Connections: Trouble connecting to the Internet.

    • Shared Folders: Trouble accessing files and folders on other computers on the network.

    • HomeGroup: Trouble viewing computers or files in a HomeGroup.

    • Network Adapter: Check to see if the network adapter is having problems.

    • Incoming Connections: Trouble accessing this computer from another computer on the network.

  4. Click Next, then follow the instructions to check for problems.

If the issue persists: (continue troubleshooting from Step 6 onwards)

Hello,

Sorry this took so long to reply.

To answer your questions:

No - there is no light when the ethernet cable is plugged in.

This is a working cable - it works fine when I plug it into a USB ethernet adapter on this same PC.

I have tried installed multiple drivers for this computer - no luck.

When I go to Network Connections - there are no network adapters showing.

If I troubleshoot - Internet connections - it tells me to plug a cable in (which already is plugged in)

Same answer if I troubleshoot Network Adapter.

It doesn't exist... which is my problem...

I need to install the drivers for this I assume.

When I go to HP site and download the drivers for this computer and try to install, I get an error : Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled (9996).

I get the same error if I try to install the wireless driver.

Thanks,

Amber

Have you followed all the steps suggested in my previous post?

I recommend you run a hardware test on the network card and check. Follow the steps in the below artilce to run the hardware test.

I installed the hardware tests - and ran all that were there, but there was no test for network adapter - I checked every one.

All tests passed.

What now?

Thanks!
Amber
