I'm experiencing inconsistent but SLOW download speeds on my desktop both through wifi and ethernet.  This started when my work had me switch to remote desktop connection to work remotely after I had been using a free Teamviewer account.  Immediately, there was connectivity issues and lag with using this setup.

My work's IT dept. suggested I try a powerline ethernet adapter since my home office isn't direct wired to the router nor would running a direct ethernet line be feasible.  I did, spending about $120 for a decent one from NetGear even though I doubted this was the issue as I had never experienced issues before.

So I though I'd check my download speed to the desktop via Xfinity SpeedTest.  The results varied each time I ran it, but were similar to either the wifi or ethernet connection.  Lows of about 4-5 Mbps with occasional highs around 30Mbps.

An ipad and iphone connected via wifi right next to my desktop tower regularly runs download speeds of 50-60 Mbps.

This leads me to believe the problem is isolated to my desktop computer.  I'm searching for any ideas to help resolve this.

Thanks

@JSteel77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the Internet connection speed.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Are you connecting to the 2.4GHz network or 5GHz network? I recommend you connect to 5GHz and check the speed.

Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the wireless driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link and check if it helps.

Also, update the BIOS from the above link and check.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
