Is there a way to update on board network to support 1 gig or do i need to buy a new card

Hi:
There is no way to update the current onboard ethernet chip to achieve speeds beyond 100 MBPS.
If you look at the motherboard for your model, you will see that there are no expansion slots to add an internal network card.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to purchase an external USB 3 to RJ-45 gigabit ethernet adapter.
Make sure you connect it to one of the USB3 ports in the back of the PC for best results.
I don't believe that you will achieve gigabit ethernet speeds from a USB 2 port.
