My laptop will not close down or do anything, it has been installing updates for the last 5 hrs and I can't get on any other screen to even close it down.

Hi @Mar77ilyn,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is stuck on installing updates screen.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted J

I would like to know whether you have reinstalled the operating system on your computer?

If you are installing the windows updates after a fresh operating system it doesn’t take some time to complete/install all the updates.

It also happens when you do not restart the computer often as all the updates will be downloaded on the computer and they get installed only when you restart the computer.

I recommend you wait until all the updates get installed on the computer, as it is not suggested to turn off or remove the power from the computer and it may result in operating system crash.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
