06-05-2018 07:08 PM - edited 06-05-2018 07:24 PM

Today my wired connetion stopped & can only connect wireless. I play World of Warcraft & want wired connection. Everything was fine till i started pc today. Called xfinity & they said it was hardware issue so i hooked up a Dell & wired it, is fine. Can someone please help.
HP Support asst said it was all fine. lol I tried Diagnostics & it says cable unpluged but i tried different ethernet cables
& none worked on it but they did on the older/slower Dell.

Afternoon, As a wow player myself, I've encountered his issue several times with Verizon & Comcast. The wow forums seem to suggest that these ISP services are "throttling" users connection in order to limited your bandwidth. I personally can't verify this statement. But there is is something to it. Check your bandwidth usage for the month. Disconnect all cables and reset your modem. If you're being throttled, then chances are your connection is being timed out before it even gets started.
Also, clear cookies, delete your temp folders and reset wow via their support page. If you rent the modem, it might be best to get off that rental plan and purchase a modem which your ISP supports. I've also found that the modem those Isp's give you do not allow full range for playing games. One must realize that these supplied modems are merely for connecting to the net and nothing more.

Thx Amplighter, but ive done all that & the problem isnt with WOW. I just commented that i prefer to play on my pc thats hard wired in my bedroom than the wireless in the living room. The HP Pavillion HPE i7 that i have been using in bedroom is wireless but i ran the ethernet cable & never connected on wireless. But all of a sudden other day i was unable to connect & ran Network Diag & it said cable was unplugged. I checked & even tied new ethernet cables & different ports on router but still i had to connect via wifi. Xfinity said it wasnt router so I took an old Dell i5 out of moth balls & hook it up in bedroom with the cables & thats what im currently using, & it doesnt have a wifi card. So something has to be up with the Pavillion. IPconfig /all shows media disconnected. All drivers are updated but i notice Local Area Connection does not show up on Change adapter settings. It only shows Local Area Connection 2 & 3 (vpn & tap) & wireless Net Connection (Qualcom) & PureVpn (WAN miniport). This Dell im on now wired, shows 3 Local Area Connections (Intell Gigabit Net, Vpn, Tap) & Purevpn). All those work.
Everytime i try to set up a new connection it will say network cable unplugged & goes to wireless. The HP support app ran a test & told me all was fine. They figure if you can connect wirelessly then it doesnt look for an ethernet problem. Im very confused.
Thank you for your quick response.

Very well I'm under the impression that something was installed on your system not to long before you started having this connection issues, if you have an antivirus software, the port security could be set too high. See if you can recall what if any software had been installed just before you started having this issue. Check that you're not using a crossover cable or that the pins via the RJ45 connector have not been damaged. But I suspect this is a software related issue. Might even help if you simply reboot the system with all devices connected, ch3ck the device manager also for any questionable drivers, might even try to roll back the lan driver.

Well last thing installed was Twitch on 5/17/18 & problem started few days ago. The night b4 all was fine & i watched a youtube conspiricy on pc's watching you thru the blinking lights. Well this hp was refurbished & has a long red light across front.blue light & a blinking oranage all night long which i like dark at night. Sometimes i shut down but mostly i leave on permenant. So between youtube & me not liking the lights i pasted over them with stickers. I left it on but next day it was off. When i booted my cmos came on & said time was backward to 2001.I got time back to current then i noticed Xfinity norton suite was in a loop/ asking for sub, i clicked @ it verified sub butright back to saying checking sub. looped back & forth, so i uninstalled it & put on MS Security Essentails. Than discovered i couldnt get wired connection but my dell could.
You say to roll back lan how do i do that? if u look at my orig post i showed what 4 devices where under Networking in Device MGR & all were wireless. My LAC disappeared & had LAC2 (VPN) & LAC3(TAP) plus PUREPVN & MS WIFI MINIPORT ADAPTER.
Ive done all you suggested & also ran chkdsk (good) & sfc /scannow with no integrity violations.
unless someone at google was watching me & got pissed i covered his view screen looking at me so he hacked me...lol
Thanks for your continued help Amplighter, hopefully you can remedy this. Blessings to you.

YW I wish that I could offer you more detailed instructions in order to scan and adjust your system, but currently I'm limited to how I can view and post data online and within the forum. My HP system went down 2 months again and never recovered.
I fell that I'm hndy with these kinds of things but find it hard to relay the information thereafter. Rolling back the drivers via your device manager could prove benifual. Access the device manager via your start up menu. One things you've just said is that the system was refurbished this would send a clear signal to people like me to avoid anything refurbished unless one has the nessaresy back disks or boot drives.
At this point and as last resort assuming you have a back up disk created, you will have to start fresh or clean slate and remove everything. While doing so, do not connect to the internet and use the secondary system to acquire all the drivers or downloads nessaresy. This will take some time formatting and repartioning the system.
Over my life time, I've been able to acquire back copies of Sony, Dell and even mac but have yet to acquire a back up copy for any HP system. Once I'm ble to do this, I would be able to better assist you and others with their issues.
So if and when I'm able to acquire my own new system, this is he best I can offer. Good Luck
