internet connection

Newly set up computer in a home with a wifi router.

Because this computer is set up in a basement I have run an ethernet cable to keep a constant connection to the internet.

( Wi Fi in the basement isn't very good)

I went into settings  and network and connected the option ethernet. However the computer will not hold that setting.

Every few minutes I have to go back to settings because I 've lost internet.

How can I make my computer hold ethernet setting??      pleeeease!

Re: internet connection

Hello

Will try to assist you with this.

First, the problem PC is in basement, where is the router and how long is ethernet cable used to connect PC to the router? Have you tried a different ethernet cable? Ad hoc cable connections have distance limits.

There are four points of possible failure.

1. PC network adapter (buy ethernet adapter and connect to PC, install driver and check connection using new network adapter.) Or think about getting a network powerline adapter.

2. Network adapter driver software (update driver). Go to your PC's HP support site and see if new ethernet driver is available or reinstall current driver using HP Recovery Manager. Check status of network adapter in Device Manager.

3. Wireless router ethernet LAN ports (try a different router port)

4. Cable or DSL modem (do you have problems with other devices connected using ethernet connection to router or wireless connection to router?)

No problems with other devices narrows problem to PC. Try a temporary direct PC connection to modem.

Grzy
