HP PAVILION Model #: h8-1210t
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My router from  FIOS VERIZON has dual band wireless capabity (5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz) : presently I have it set up connected to my dektop computer with an ethernet cable to this router and it is set at 5Ghz so it is on the LAN.  Addittionally a wireless network is available at 2.4 Ghz for my cell phone or laptop and this is evident on the list available wireless networks available displayed on my dektop list , but the wireless 5 GHz is  not evident on this  wireless network list.

The network card I have is Dual stream 802.11n  LAN card.  So my question is  do I have the possibility of connecting my computer wirelessly to the router at 5Ghz?   I am thinking "no" but I could buy another card to render this capability.

Please can someone help,,

Angus

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the wireless capability isn't compatible with 5ghz router and you need replacement options for your wifi card,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check your product specifications to identify which parts are available for upgrade?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Must select one of the following options:

  • Integrated Ethernet port, No Wireless LAN

  • 802.11 b/g/n PCI Express Wireless Mini Card 1x1

  • 802.11 b/g/n PCI Express Wireless Mini Card 2x2

  • 802.11 b/g/n PCI Express Wireless Mini Card 2x2 + Bluetooth

  • 802.11 b/g/n PCI Express Wireless Dual Band Mini Card 2x2 + Bluetooth

You have two options, you can either get any of the above parts tested and approved by HP or simple get an external USB dongle 5ghz and that should connect to any of the USB ports on your device and work with the computer or you replace the internal part using the below sites:

You could purchase the part from HP, use the HP Parts surfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here) or alternatively, Contact HP for setting up an order/service via phone support:

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

* Open link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/

* Enter Product number or select to auto detect

* Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

* Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get a Case & phone number.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.
