8GB memory limitation Pavilion P7-1236s

Is there any way to increase the memory beyond the 8MB limitation? This seems artificially low by todays standards, especially with the availability of 16GB sets for about $100.

Re: 8GB memory limitation Pavilion P7-1236s

Hi,

HP has recently changed memory specifications on some of it's PC to allow for more memory expansion.  I haven't seen any changes for the P7-1236s.

Note: The motherboard in your PC uses the H61 chipset which is capable of addressing 16 GB on other motherboards with only two dimm slots.  However, the bios in your PC may limit support to 8 GB.  If you feel adventuresome, you might give a try to two matching 8 GB dimms using the same voltage as your current dimms. You most likey will not find the same CAS timings as your existing dimms.  CPU-Z will give you the specifications of the existing dimms. Know what the return policy is before you buy anything. Clear the CMOS after installing the new dimms.

fmbma99,

It's an entry level computer, with only 2 slots. It's not meant for serious upgrades.  At least it's not a slimline.

Re: 8GB memory limitation Pavilion P7-1236s

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I agree it's entry level, but it is quite powerful for some types of applications. And with an 8GB DDR3 module now down to around $50, it would be nice, for my particular needs, to be able to go to 12 or 16GB.

Thanks, that's helpful. Not sure I'm willing to blow $100 to experiment with it at this point tho...
