@LVK1

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you've installed the 901 TRI COLOR and have been getting the error - "GET REFER DEVICE DOCUMENTATION",

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you ensured this replacement cartridge is genuine HP branded?

Does the old cartridge work, did you reinsert the old one to check if that works?

While you respond to that, here's a few things you need to do:

Step 1: Check the cartridge compatibility

Make sure that the installed cartridges are compatible with your printer and that they are unmodified, genuine HP cartridges.

Step 2: Remove, inspect, and then reinstall the cartridge

The cartridge might not have the full electrical contact it needs. Follow these steps to remove, inspect, and then reinstall the cartridges.

Step 3: Clean the contacts

Ink can build up on the cartridge and carriage contacts. Follow these steps to clean the cartridge and carriage electrical contacts.

Let me know how that works out, keep me in the loop and Good luck! 😉
