Good evening,
This morning I decided to update my desktop BIOS to the newer version, so I searched from the Hp driver web page and I get the BIOS image for my PC (A0.17 Rev.A). I launched the installer and I didn't receive any error message. But when I rebooted the system it didn't display any image. I can hear the fan noise so I suppose it boots correctly. Anyone can help me to restore my desktop? Thank you in advance!

@lolloscorpion If the GPU is not compatible with the device, I wouldn't suggest putting it back in, perhaps, you can try with another GPU to check if that works fine,
Also, you can still attempt using the USB device as under normal circumstances it should work fine and the device shouldn't be bricked.

If the BIOS on your computer becomes corrupted, the computer fails to start to Windows. The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation, through environmental conditions (such as a power surge or outage), from a failed BIOS upgrade or damage from a virus. If the BIOS is corrupted, the system automatically attempts to restore the BIOS from a hidden partition when the computer is restarted.
To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your computer:
-
Turn off the computer.
-
With the computer off, press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time.
-
Still pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).
NOTE:
If the key presses do not work, press and release the Power button, and then immediately, press the Windows and B keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the BIOS update screen.
The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything displays on the monitor. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically.

If the HP BIOS Update screen displays proceed to the next step.

If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, do one of the following depending on the condition:
-
Computer starts into Windows: The computer starts into Windows if the power button and keys are released too soon. Repeat the previous steps, holding the power button down for 2 or 3 seconds.

Power LED light turns off: The computer turns off if the power button is pressed and held down too long. Repeat the previous steps, holding the power button down for between 2 and 3 seconds.

After repeated attempts, the HP BIOS Update screen does not open: Your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening.

After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button displays and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately, or wait for the computer to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

When the computer restarts, a black screen displays with a message similar to the following:
A system BIOS Recovery has occurred.
BIOS Recovery (500)
Enter - Continue StartupPress the Enter key to continue immediately or allow the computer to restart automatically.
NOTE:
After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message about the BIOS, update the BIOS. Go to Updating the BIOS for more information.

After restarting, Windows might display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue.
If this recovery method fails, use another working computer to create a BIOS recovery flash drive to install the latest BIOS file.

Thank you for your reply,
I discovered that the problem was the graphic card installed (a Radeon R5 330), removing it from the pci slot I was able to boot normally without any issue.
After that I tried to downgrade my boot to a previous version using the Win + B combination, the procedure succed but when it rebooted I still have the same BIOS (A0.17) so I was unable to install the GPU.
Should I try to restore an older version using an usb device or I risk to brick everithing and it is better to keep this version (with the Meltdown and Spectre mitigation) without the graphic card?

Unfortunately I don't have any other GPU to try if it is compatible with this new BIOS version, and the structure of the desktop impose several constraints to choose another one (small form factor, low power (only 180W PSU)). So I have to decide if keep this BIOS version without a dedicated GPU or try to downgrade the BIOS with an older BIOS version.

@lolloscorpion I know what you mean, keeping those constraints in mind, perhaps, you could take the computer to a local tech and have him check the device with a spare GPU to check if it works,

Woo hoo! I thought the sp97071/F.35 BIOS update had bricked my 15-ba079dx -- it had gotten itself in a perpetual update failure cycle, and each time the update failed, the update app tried to restore the previous BIOS unsuccessfully.
I don't understand why the WIN-B recovery worked, while the update recovery did not, but I'm glad I searched further for a solution.
