pavilion g6
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have windows 8.1 installed on hp pavilion g6 notebook. I was in the middle of a download when my machine restarted automatically and since then I always have these repetitive messages "preparing automatic repair" followed by a black screen and "diagnocing your pc"

Prior to these problems, all my keyboard keys stopped functioning so I relied on external keyboard to carry out most of my tasks.

Booting windows from my flash drive requires that I disconnect all external cables from the machine. This means I can no longer use my external keyboard. I removed the inbuilt keyboard and performed thorough cleaning yet it doesnt respond. It seems my keyboard drivers are out of date. I want to recover windows 8.1 on my machine. Is there way of going about with the aid of an external keyboard and a bootable windows 8.1 pendrive??

Simple question: what happens when you leave the keyboard attached ?

the external keyboard becomes inactive when left attached. I was asked to restart the machine when I tried booting from the flash drive.

Disconnect the external keyboard.

Boot the computer.

At the point where you need keyboard input, which presumably is AFTER the check for "you-need-to-unplug" has completed, reconnect the keyboard, and wait a few seconds, for "plug-and-play" to install the support, and then see if you can type.
