hp pavilion 550

Not really a problem but just want to know if any parts from a old dell computer would be good to use in upgrading my computer.

The dell computer is a Dell Dimension 4700 Pentium 4Ht 2.8ghz 512mb 40gb Xp Office 2003 Ms.

The power supply is one thing I might want from it as its over double the wattages of my newer computer so it can handle more before over heating.

The Hp has a 90w power supply which is the same cord you use to charge a laptop and it powers my computer. Its pretty sucky as I bought and said it could be upgraded with a graphics card and there was no slot so its too late for the warranty and the Best Buy website took it off the lists when you search for it.

I have seen some of the units that use the external power supply listed on HP.  About the only hope you might have is to post the exact model number so the support page can be specifically brought up to see if there is any possibility that a larger internal power supply can be added.  Or you can open the case to see if such a spot exists for the internal power supply to be installed.

And then it might be possible to recommend a graphics card upgrade, too.

Where is the model number located.

Each DELL computer has a unique "service-tag" -- black letters/numbers on a white sticker.

That is the only detail on the sticker.

It is UNIQUE -- that's all we need to uniquely identify your "as-shipped" system.

On some desktop DELL systems, the sticker is on the front of the top panel.

On some desktop DELL systems, the sticker is on the back-panel, along with all the external connectors.

On some laptop DELL systems, the sticker is on the bottom.

No I'm talking about on the hp computer.

Sometimes it is on the back panel but on the new Envy I have, it is on the bottom.

It may be in the BIOS, on the top "title bar once the BIOS is opened.

Having the Dell "Service Tag" will describe what components that your Dell has, to determine which parts can be "repurposed" for the HP.

Look for a "professional-looking" decal (bottom of a HP laptop, or back-panel on a HP desktop), with details like 'P/N' (product number) and 'S/N' (serial number) listed.

The tag should say model number or product number or both

Do not list the serial number as the mod will remove it from the thread
