I haven't played a DVD in a long time - I tried to play a DVD today and it won't play. It accepts the DVD in the slot, I hear repeated grinding-type noises and eventually it displays a message that no DVD was found - and spits it out. My husband inserted the same DVD in his Apple system and it played immediately.
What I've tried: I tried running the HP Diagnostic and after 2 hours it was hung up - so I cancelled it. I found a link in this forum to a site on Microsoft to run a FIX IT for DVD issues. It crashed with an error.
The CD/DVD drive is likely unable to mechanically function, as it's grinding. The removal process is explained here. The only mention of DVD players in the CTO configuration are :
1) SuperMulti 8X SATA Slimslot DVD ------------ no specified part #
2) Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner with LightScribe Technology part # 466803-001
Could you supply the product # ??
I only did a quick search on the 466803-001, at $100
