Hi guys,
I was given a HP Motherboard from a friend the other day, he wasnt sure if it was working or not. I put the motherboard into a spare case I had lying around and added ram and a PSU that were all working. When I go to turn the computer on the CPU fan jerks slightly then nothing else happens. The power button will not make the fan jerk again until it is unplugged then plugged in again. I have tried reseting the CMOS, changing ram, PSU, jumping the pins to start it up but nothing seems to work, I suspect it is a busted motherboard but I couldnt find anything on the internet about it.
Thanks.

Hi! @Mitchell1000, Thank you for joining the HP Forums!
I understand that you are unable to boot into your PC.
As you mentioned that when you turn on your PC CPU fan jerks and unit does not boot.
It could be a failed system board or the power supply not providing enough power to the system board.
Please contact HP support for service options.

Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day! 🙂

Hi Mr Robot,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried swapping power supplies, however the board still didnt start. I had an idea that it might be shorting on the case could this be the course of the problem? Another thought I had is a corrupted bios. I had another board which had dual bios and the same problem. Eventually it started but with the backup bios.
Thanks very much for your help, Mitchell1000.

Hi! @Mitchell1000, thanks for the response and patience.
It looks to be more of a system board issue since the fan is jerking.
You can try replacing the system board and check if the issue still persists.
Have a wonderful day!
Take Care! Happy thanksgiving 🙂
