Formosa Motherboard Memory Configuration

I have a Formosa Motherboard in an hpe h8 1220t.  The motherboard specifys it supports   pc3 12800 1600mhz RAM however, I have installed Gskill RAM with the above mentioned specs and it is showing up at a speed of 1333mhz.

is there anywhere in the BIOS I can configure this that I am not noticing?

NO, you didn't miss any BIOS setings. Please indicate the amount and full configuration of RAM on your computer.

The RAM speed automatically is configured based on the RAM SPD and RAM population. You may try using one stick of GSkill 1600MHz only and see what speed the BIOS reports. If this reports 1600... add another stick and repeat. If using mixed memory modules, the computer usually select the the slower common speed.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Formosa Motherboard Memory Configuration

Hi,

The Formosa motherboard can run either the Intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processors.  If your PC has the Intel Sandy Bridge processor then 1333 is all that you will see. If you are running the Intel Ivy Bridge processor then all of the dimms need to be 1600 mhz dimms (same CAS required) to ensure that the dimms will bind up at the maximum speed rating.

Custom motherboards will allow faster speeds with dimms using XMP but typically the faster speeds are over clocking the dimms.  Even without using XMP faster speeds can be obtained using manual timing and voltage adjustments. HP doesn't give consumer motherboards over clocking choices except in rare occasions.
