HP Pavilion 500-100a Graphics Upgrade Options

HP Recommended
Pavilion 500-100a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion 500-100a. Recently the installed AMD Graphics card has developed a noisy fan. Looking to replace the card and after a list of compatible replacements. Tried some 4-5 year old PCI express cards but could not get a picture. The PC appeared to start but no display.

The power consumption of the existing card I believe is 50w.

Thanks,
Dwarfboysim

Hi @Dwarfboysim,

Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with a black screen after changing the video card. I will be glad to help you.

Can you tell me what the make and model of the video card you put in?

Have you installed the driver for that video card?

Please get back to me so I can try to help you.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  I have gotten further now.  I installed a Geforce 520GT fanless graphics card that I had spare.  I booted the machine and let it sit for about 10 minutes.  It looks like Windows in the background sorted out driver issues and then loaded the NVIDIA driver and I got a picture.  BTW I have 2 screens attached to this card.  One via HDMI and the other via DVI.  There is also a VGA port on the card.

I have now hit another problem.  When I first turn on the machine I now get nothing on the screens until it get to Windows.  With the old AMD card at power on I used to get the HP Logo first then the little Windows 10 dots going around in circles indicating that Windows was loading.  But I no longer get this.  My educated guess is that either somehow onboard graphics is sending that to the onboard VGA port or that the GT 520 which has a VGA port is sending it to there.  Is there any way to disable this?

Thanks,

Dwarfboysim

Hi @Dwarfboysim,

That is a default setting of the card. I have not found any way to change that.
