HP Pavilion Elite m9400n - GeForce 8400 GS

Hi everyone, I would like to upgrade my display card but dont know which one I can upgrade it to. My goal to upgrade it to at least 1Gb.

The Elite m9400n has GeForce 8400 GS. I am hoping to upgrade to something better than GTS260. I realise that I have to upgrade my power supply to 600W as well.

IF my computer (m9400n) can take higher power supply (i.e.1000W), can I upgrade the display card to even better card? Not sure if I have to upgrade other things too.

I have 8Gb RAM (max out), CPU is 2Quad @6600 @2.4Ghz

Please help!

Bill,

No sense adding PSU and GPU without knowing the requirements of your goal.

If it's gaming, I would suggest you use this site to quiry the requirements.  The "Can I Run It" is helpful. You'll need an account (free). Otherwise, you can google (example) "Assassin Creed 4 requirements" then follow link to game debate.

The max recommended PSU is 650W.

BTW -- Can not find your m9400n------- what is the product number?

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

No not for games. It is for autodesk 3ds max rendering, and lumion 3d animation.
Product no is GN553AA. It was right in the front of the computer. I also confirmed that the Power supply is 300Watt.

I looked at the Lumion website. It tells how passmark points I need in order to run the program smoothly. It said minimum of 2500 pt.

http://lumion3d.com/faq/#hardware

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

So I think I could afford GeForce GTX760, around $300.

but i am not sure if it is compatible with Pavilion elite m9400n still.
