HP media center xp oem reinstallation

I need to reinstall XP on the drive for media center, the one that pulls out.

Somehow I was trying to get stuff off another disk and seems to have rendered the original disk inoperable.

At the moment I have a third boot drive running XP on it but I'd like to be able to get the data off the original drive for starters and at present it seems inoperable. It looks like its been erased but I know its there.

Any advise?

Unless you can jump through hoops, WinXP cannot be installed on a removable drive.  It is designed that way.  If the OS has become corrupt or inoperable, use the Recovery Partition to reinstall, or use the reinstall media made when the PC was new.  If they are lost order the Recovery Media from here: http://www.computersurgeons.com/
