I have an old HP Personal Media Drive hd0000 that I used with a desktop that has long since been recycled. It has a 300 GB capacity, according to the sticker on the drive. I'd have to track down/purchase a power cable and get the right connecting cable, but could it still be used as an external drive for backup. I'm tired of the wait to backup to a cloud server.

You can get an external enclosure and connect via USB.

Is it SATA or IDE???

Not sure what an external enclosure is. How can I determine if it is SATA or IDE?

HP Recommended

It has a usb connector port but I'll need to get the right cable. I have the manual.

Does the hard drive have the IDE "PIN" connecter or the SATA "SLIDE-ON" connector???

Neither. It's usb 2.0. Picture on pages 2 and 5 of manual. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00769879.pdf

Soemtimes it pays to be a pack rat and compulisive organiser! Went down to the basement and found the original box with the adapter, cable, software and manual. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

I was hoping that you knew the connector of the HDD itself.

The AC adaptor is around $10 and the cable is around $5.

But a new enclosure, AC and cable is around $17.
