Harddrive failure imminent Seagate ST31000528AS

[ Edited ]

Help Please. I have a Pavilion Desktop that is a few years old. Yesterday I received a "Imminent harddrive failure" message and the computer shut down.  Now it boots to a blue screen.  I was able to do the tests on the harddrive and it tests and sounds normal. All smart tests failed.  Is the only resolution to install a new harddrive?  The machine prompted me to make 28 back-up discs.  Will they install?

Please post the exact HP product number for your PC.

Get you critical data backed up.  The 28 disks would be using CDs.  You might have a create recovery disk options to use DVD+R media which would use considerably less optical media.

Review this posted article on Seagate hard drives.

Frankly, you should consider replacing the hard drive with a comparable size hard drive but don't go over board on size as some of the older PCs have issues if the hard drive that is either too large or is an advanced format hard drive.
