How to Disable Windows 8 F1 Key Shortcut
03-03-2013 10:03 PM
Whenever I click F1 it opens Windows Help and Support. I've read about forums on how to disable it but none for Windows 8. I need the F1 key for gaming.

Hello KleinC,
You don’t want the F key to open Help and Support.
You can load BIOS by tapping F10 at startup, go to system configuration and disable action keys.
Let me know of this helps.

How to Disable Windows 8 F1 Key Shortcut

Whenever I click f10 at the startup, all it does is raise the volume. I found my way towards system configuration but I can't find a way to disable keys. I have these tabs: general, boot, services, startup, and tools. I did a bit of exploring myself and could'nt find a way to disable there abilites. I also need f1to f4 keys but whenever I click on them, they open Windows Help and Support, raise or lower the brightness of my laptop, etc.

KleinC,
If you hold down the ESC when you power on the computer, it should give you a startup menu.
Select BIOS Setup (F10). This will take you to a Setup Utility. Arrow over to System Configuration.
You should now have the option to disable action keys.
Here is a link that will show you how to disable action keys.
Let me know how everything goes.

Hello.
I happen to have the same issue.
Whenever I'm playing a game which requires keys like F1, F2 and so on, windows help bar pops up or then again screen goes lighter or darker, depending on the button.
I'm using HP pavilion laptop with windows 8.
I went to system disable fkeys but it still doesn't work.
What to do ?

Hello JoonaNikolai,
I understand that you need to disable the function keys.
If you hold down the ESC when you power on the computer, it should give you a startup menu.
Select BIOS Setup (F10). This will take you to a Setup Utility. Arrow over to System Configuration.
You should now have the option to disable action keys.
Here is a link that will show you how to disable action keys.
After you disable the keys make sure that you save the changes.
Let me know how everything goes.
