Keyboard not working

Operating Windows XP.  Had a virus. Got everything back to normal but keyboard don't work. using on-screen keyboard. Tried application and driver recovery. downloaded new drivers from HP. Still get a code 39 saying winows cannot load drivers for this hardware. The drvers may be corrupt or missing. I even tied a USB keyboard and it doesn't work either and I get the same code 39 message. I thought abut doing a systems recovery but never have done one and not sure if you can do one with the keyboard not working. Help. Any Ideas?
