At 12:15 am on 2-16-17 I was on the internet, using the wi-fi I've used for 3 years when suddenly I lost the internet connection. When I tried to reconnect, the wi-fi option is GONE from network settings, and my desktop was in airplane mode? I couldn't even find the wi-fi when I went into device manager until I asked to view 'hidden devices'. I've got 2 wi-fi network adapters but both are no longer conected nd it seems they are missing.
Here's what the computer is telling me:
under "properties"for MICROSOFT WI-FI DIRECT VIRTUAL ADAPTER, General tab:
Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.
Under the "Events" tab:
Device {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd\5&22074e6f&0&02 was migrated.
Last Device Instance Id: {5d624f94-8850-40c3-a3fa-a4fd2080baf3}\vwifimp_wfd\5&22074e6f&0&02
Class Guid: {4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Location Path:
Migration Rank: 0x0
Present: true
For the RALINK RT5309R 802.11bgn Wi-fi adapter it says:
Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.
Under the events tab, in the information section it says:
Device PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_539B&SUBSYS_18ED103C&REV_00\0000F64B0623946800 requires further installation.
I initially started out with Windows 7 but upgraded to Windows 10 when it was released. Other than that, I have done nothing to this computer, made no changes to anything, installed nothing new? Everything seemed fine, I've had no problems with it. (I also have Windows 8 start menu, I don't know why, and I would like ot change that to the 10 start menu, I just don't know how.) I'd like help with that too, but the wi-fi issue is more pressing at the moment.
I don't know how to fix it!?? I've watched Utube videos, read over many 'fixes' and most of it makes very little, if any, sense to me. I need it explained to me like a 4 year old child would I guess. I've got Norton security, so I don't think its a virus or anything like that? I don't do risky things on the internet, the computer is mainly used for one game and the occasional web search.
Any advice would be very much appreciated!! As far as I knew, everything was fine until 2 days ago...however,
In trying to find a fix for this, I did happen on event logs and noticed the computer has been throwing up warnings and errors for quite some time, I truly believe it was due to the wi-fi adapters and resulted in the problem that brings me here now. If there is more information required about anything, a detailed explanation of how and where to find that information would be necessary and appreciated. I obviously am not a computer savvy person. 🙂
Thank you so much in advance for any advice you can offer.
Sincerely.
