Max amount of ram and what kind of Ram

HP Recommended

I own a HP Pavilion Elite M9150F. its been a great workhorse computor and i never had a problem with it. My harddrive is only half  filled.

I have a very good virus and spamware program and my system is not effected.

All of a suddon it is very slow. Slow going from program to program, slow getting on the internet.

IS IT MY RAM?

The system shows the following:

System memorey-3GB

Slot #1-0

Slot #2- 1 GB

Slot #3- 1 GB

Slot #4-0

Does this mean it can only handle 3GB and i am already using 2?

I want to increase to to 8GB 4X2GB HP - Compaq Pavilion Elite m9150f DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM Memory

Is this good? Will my system handle this ram? Am i wasting my money?

Help me please.

Thank you

Hi,

Going slow all of a sudden would suggest something other than memory is a problem.

If your PC is still running VISTA then run these diagnostics.

HP ENVY 6055, HP Deskjet 1112
HP Envy 17", i7-8550u,16GB, 512GB NVMe, 4K screen, Windows 10 x64
Custom PC - Z590, i7-11700K, 32GB, dual 512 GB NVMe, gen4 2 TB m.2 SSD, 4K screen, OC'd to 5 Ghz, NVIDIA 3080 10GB

Your wise to ask, as according to specifications,  allowable RAM is 4 GB total for a 32-bit OS.  I would suggest you consult Taskmanager by  press ctr+alt+delete, then the performance tab.  This monitor will reflect used RAM and process load.  BTW,  1+1 = 2, not the stated 3 system ram. (Might be the new math, but I am old school).

According to your description, your running the 2 RAM modules in single channel mode. (see installing/adding RAM). To increase your performance, I would recommend four 2GB matching modules in the all slots.
