HP pavillion

Hi all, hope you can help.  When i turn the desktop on, all i see on the monitor is the cursor for the mouse.  The rest of the screen is blank.  From this, i am assuming that (i) i have power (ii) the cables are connected properly and (iii) there is no problem with the monitor.  Can anyone help with a solution to help me see the desktop.  Thanks in advance for any help

Your symptoms seem to describe a situation where Windows did not boot, leaving you with a screen like:

       C:\>

with the cursor "blinking" immediately to the right of the '>'.

Turn your computer off.

Turn your computer on, and immediately look for a message like "press <blah> to run HP Diagnostics".

Press that <blah> key.

Run the diagnostics for your RAM and your disk-drive, and report the results to us.
