Monitors going into power saving mode

Envy Phoenix 860-121
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My brand new HP Envy Phoenix 860-121 keeps putting my monitor into power saving mode after 3-5 minutes of game play.  After many frustrating hours on the phone with support, I bought a new HP 233s monitor hoping to plug and play. Having the exact same issue 3 minutes into game play with this monitor.  Using an HDMI cable for smoothest graphics. Have set monitor and computer to sleep "never."  What is going on! So angry right now.
