Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My PC came with a free Windows10 upgrade, but one day it went into recovery and installed 8.1, and I need my Windows 10 back!  After I had purchased this PC, it offered me the upgrade, and I accepted. However, now that I've done a recovery, I can not find the update or the update offer. Please tell me how I can get my Wndows 10 back.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Gary Shawn WIreman

Hi,

Welcome to HP Support Forum. When resetting your machine back to FACTORY SETTINGS using Recovery media, it will always go back to its original Operating system, in your case Windows 8.1.

But, you can do a fresh install Windows 10 (must be same version before) using the following source:

                   https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

During the installation process, it will ask for a product key. Please skip it and continue. Windows will activate when you come online, because the key is still in the BIOS of your machine.

Regards.

Did this computer come with a recovery disk?

Would that key be the "original" Windows 8 key, or a key for the "free upgrade" Windows 10 ?

Because the computer wa running Windows 10, it has a "digital entitlement" to reinstall Windows 10, at no cost.

As the Other Person indicated, just download Windows 10, and install it, clicking "I do not have a product key", to leverage that entitlement.
