TB, it sounds like you have made certain that all of the connections are correct. So, did you check in the Sound 'Control Panel' to ensure that all of the boxes are checked that should be and those that are not supposed to be checked are not? This is always where I begin with any sound problem. You would be surprised how many times boxes become un-checked. Why? Who knows? Glitches simply happen.
Let us know what happens.
