PC Crashed, Files backed up as .wim files on HP external HD, can't open them.

Hi My HP Deskstop recently crashed, i went to system recovery and Backed Up all files (about 77g) into the new HP simple save external HD. All the files were saved as .wim files. How do I open or convert them to their original state. Ive downloaded 2 programs 7-11 and Bitmapper, that can open them, but it only opens them in their own windows. I can't drag them to my deskstop or to any folders. When I do drag them, more then once, computer says that the file already exist at that location, BUT IT IS NOT VISIBLE? I really would like to convert them to there original files, especially the music ,video and photos, pleae help, this is driving me crazy, I had important work saved. thanks so much in advance.. victor
