Pavilion 500-054 Windows 8 does not recognize Seagate Barracuda 1tb HD.

[ Edited ]

I'm trying to install another drive in the PC above, but Windows 8 does not recognize it. The BIOS does.

It is connected to the spare power plug on the main HD, and to the motherboard SATA1 port.

Is there something I'm missing. I've tried putting the drive jumper to limit to 1.5 gb/sec, but that doesn't work.

I normally build my own machines, so I do know my way around these machines.

TIA

Mike, welcome to the forum.

I am not certain that this is the answer to your problem, but I wanted to begin with updating the "Firmware" of the drive.  If you have already done this step, please let me know.

As your system has UEFI BIOS, you'll need to actually "enable" the Sata port. Look at the BIOS, Security tab, Devices.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served.
Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

I think that UEFI is messing me up. I've been reading page after page trying to figure that mess out.

I can't even get the machine to boot from the Seagate Diagnostics CD.

Thanks

Well, that did no good. Everything is enabled.

How do I boot from a iso image CD?

Should I switch to Legacy mode? If I can figure it out.

Maybe I'll take this thing back and build my own system. Windows 8 is frustrating anyway.

Well, I got it into Legacy  mode, but the thing still won't boot to the Seagate iso CD.

If I can't get it going by tomorrow, this thing is going back to BestBuy, and I'll spend a ton of money at MicroCenter.

I've been a faithful HP user with several machines, but this is busting my balls.
