Pavilion Elite HPE-257c PCI Express slot spec

[ Edited ]

I'm looking to buy an Pavilion Elite HPE-257c, but was curious if the PCI Express x16 and PCI Express x1 are both 2.0.  I'm planning to install a PCI Express USB 3.0 add on card, which supports PCI Express 2.0.  I know PCI Express 2.0 cards are backward compatible with older slots, but I won't be utilizing the full potential using it an old, slow slot.

According to the products specs here....

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02063037

So I am assuming the PCI on the board is 1.0, yet the ATI Radeon HD5570 state the interface is PCI Express 2.0 x16. As I mentioned earlier, I know PCI Express 2.0 cards are backward compatible with older slots, but will just not be utilitizing the speed of PCI Expres 2.0.

So my questions is, what is the PCI express spec of the motherboard for the Pavilion Elite HPE-257c?

Re: Pavilion Elite HPE-257c PCI Express slot spec

USB 3.0 and PCI-E are two different specifications.  The three available slots in your PC are PCI-E 1x slots.  The PCI-E x16 slot is at least 2.0 and might even meet the 2.1 specification.

PC Wizard might tell you what exact level the PCI slots are at but the slot may need to be ocupied.

Be safe and know what the return policy is before you buy.

Re: Pavilion Elite HPE-257c PCI Express slot spec

Thanks.  I haven't purchased it, yet, as I was doing research on the system.  So I won't be able to run PC Wizard on it.  I was just debating on the purchase.  If the mother board does have PCI express 2.0 or higher, then it's even a better deal for me.

I was planning to install the StarTech PEXUSB3S2 2 Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card Adapter in order to use USB 3.0

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158181

Which states the following...

Backwards compatible with previous USB standards
Compliant with PCI Express 2.0 specs
Fully compliant with USB 3.0 revision 1.0 specifications and Intel xHCI rev0.96 specifications
Fully supports the following USB Communication Types: Control/Bulk/Interrupt/Isochronous Transfer
Provides up to 900mA per USB port
Support USB transfer speeds of 5Gbps (Super Speed), 480Mbps (High Speed), 12Mbps (Full Speed), and 1.5Mbps (Low Speed)
Supports PCI Bus Power Management Interface Specification revision 1.2
Supports up to 127 USB devices connected to a single interface. (Requires additional USB hubs to obtain this number)
USB ports are Hot Swapping and Plug-and-Play compliant

Re: Pavilion Elite HPE-257c PCI Express slot spec

Check the manufacturer's web site and see what operating systems (both 32 and 64 bit) are supported for the USB 3.0 add in card.  I have seen a USB 3.0 card being offered by HP on some of the HPE models as a combo card with the 15-in-1 memory card reader.

Where is the HPE-257c being offered?  I don't see that model on the HP web site.

The links for the system and the USB 3.0 card is on my previous posts.

It's not through the store.  One of the local electronics stores has a clearance on them and there are several available.
